Susan Van Horn, MEd, LPC
Hello and welcome! I'm so glad you're here. My name is Susan and I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor in South Carolina. I graduated from Furman University with a Sociology Degree and from Clemson University with a Masters Degree in Community Counseling. Before deciding to open my private practice, I spent years working in both inpatient and outpatient mental health facilities. I have been trained in both Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). I often draw from other evidenced-based practices such as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to teach specific skills that clients can practice between sessions.
I take an integrative and individualized approach to give each client the compassionate care they deserve. I specialize in working specifically with women and teen girls to help them heal from trauma, anxiety, depression, adjustment disorders, grief, and relationship stressors. None of us are immune to stressors and hardship in life. Some seasons are more difficult than others and you do not have to do it on your own. It's important to have support.
I'm passionate about wellness and the way that our mental wellness and physical wellness are intertwined. I take the emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual aspects of your life into account to maximize the healing process. I am currently taking new clients for in-person and virtual counseling sessions. Want to get out of the office or off of the screen? Let's go for a walk. Many studies have been done on the beneficial impact that walking can have in processing emotions and even trauma.
I'd be honored to come alongside you on your path toward healing. Let's get started.
